Kelley Vertical Levellers Give Halls Transport Platform For Growth

Written by Jamie Adamson on Monday, 11 February 2013. Posted in Warehousing and Distribution

Grant Madill, Halls Transport's GM of Operations, explains the benefits of using Kelly vertical dock levellers

The dock equipment enables Halls Transport to get the most out of their new Christchurch site. Unlike standard dock levellers, which are installed in a deep concrete pit, vertical dock levellers are installed along the edge of a continuous shelf that runs the full length of the loading dock. The shelf configuration simplifies architectural design and construction and is the easiest application to clean and maintain, which is a benefit Halls embraced fully. “We use verticals,” says Grant Madill, "because by eliminating the pit, keeping the dock area clean is easy”.

Leading US Supermarket Turns to Kelly Hulk Lift

on Thursday, 09 August 2012. Posted in Warehousing and Distribution

The Kelly Hulk Lift was utilised Instead of standard loading dock

Market Basket, a New England-based supermarket chain, found themselves tight on dock space at their new store in Wilmington, MA. They solved their space constraint issues by installing a versatile, cost-effective Kelley® HULK® Hydraulic Dock Lift to help them accommodate a variety of vehicle sizes for loading and unloading.

Market Basket is well known throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts for their winning combination of low prices and well-merchandised stores that offer a large selection of products.

And thanks to this combination, the chain has been on an aggressive growth track over the past few years, opening up to five stores annually, with one of their more recent stores opening in Wilmington, MA.

Although the location was ideal for the new store because it was part of an existing shopping plaza, the property footprint was not optimal for shipping and receiving. The store was able to accommodate a loading dock for both dry grocery and frozen foods on its northern end, but not a
dairy dock at the southern section.

The first NZ Multi-Composite High Speed Doors Re-Visited

on Friday, 15 June 2012. Posted in Warehousing and Distribution

Most high speed doors are made from steel. Nergeco realised that for high speed doors, superior materials were available. They began making doors from the latest multi-composite materials in 2002, having determined that as far as doors were concerned these were superior in most properties to steel.

These multicomposites are also used as the material for challenging and corrosive applications such as train side panels, offshore oil rig support tethers, wind turbine blades, sailing masts, underground mining as wall reinforcement rods, the wastewater industry as manhole covers, ladders, bottom scrapers and bridge structures.

Acedoors installed our first multi-composite speed doors in 2007 at the new Bidvest Fresh facility in Avondale, Auckland. Since then Acedoors have installed many more Multi-composite doors. We ask Bidvest what they think of the doors 4 1/2 years later.

Silent & Secure Hushshutter™ Replaces Car Park Roller Grille

Written by Chris McPhee on Friday, 23 March 2012. Posted in Carpark

Roller Grille Replaced by Hushshutter™ for Security

For carparks, aluminium roller grilles are often used to secure the carpark entry. This was the case for this inner city Auckland apartment complex. The roller grille allowed 24 hour access to the underground carpark, while maintaining security by remaining closed except when the swipe card was used for entry.

Unfortunately theft from vehicles was occurring even with the roller grille in place. Attempts were made to secure the grille with magnetic locks at the bottom, but the thefts continued.

Finding The Right Leveler for the Job

Foodstuffs Choose Kelly Vertical Dock Levelers for New Coolstore

The loading dock is the central hub of activity for a warehouse. The efficient on-loading and off-loading of goods represents the life flow of a company and anything that impedes that activity or threatens to disrupt it is a threat to the company’s well-being.

The choice of an interface between delivery trucks and the dock itself is crucial. Failure to choose the best leveller for a dock application can jeopardize the safety of workers. It can lead to work stoppages and even damages to expensive equipment. Companies need to learn how to assess their docks; the product they are interacting with and what types of levellers will best suit their particular applications.

In addition, cleanliness is a major concern for food distributors and dock doors are major thoroughfare for dirt and debris.

“One of the reasons that we ended up switching to vertical dock levellers in our facility is cleanliness”, says Chris Wilmoth, Auckland Coolstore Manager for Foodstuffs Limited.

Ballance Agri-Nutrients Choose the HushShutter™

Written by Brent Lay on Monday, 14 November 2011. Posted in Food Processing and Storage

Ballance Agri-Nutrients specified the Hushshutter's™ greasefree guide system.

Ballance Agri-Nutrients is one of NZ's leading fertiliser and animal nutrition suppliers. In addition to manufacturing facilities, Ballance operates numerous distribution facilities throughout the country.

The quality and cleanliness of the product is critical so when presented with Rudnev's Hushshutter™ roller shutter, Ballance specified Hushshutters for upgrades to its facilities in Tirau, Gisborne, Rolleston, and Te Kuiti.

Standard roller shutter guides require regular greasing, which is not ideal for areas where powders and dust can get caught in the grease and be difficult to clean. This is particularly important for food and food related industries. Before the Hushshutter™, food companies had to request food grade grease for their roller shutters.
